statement: ‘Make mention of All?h [through remembrances ... etc.] and He ( - عز وجل -) will make mention of you’. (1)

[Commenting on such a mistake], Im?m ‘Al? Ibn Sultan Muhammad Al-Q?r? said: ‘This misbehaviour amongst people was born out from abandoning Sunnah and practicing Bid‘ah instead. It all started when some of the Sultans and princes ordered that their names be mentioned on the pulpit by all Khutabah. These Sultans were advised that the four caliphs’ names be mentioned first and this was executed. Afterwards, the Ummayyads were the first to insult ‘Al? ( - رضي الله عنه -) and his followers in their Khutbahs for a period of time till ‘Umar Ibn Abdil ‘Aziz took hold of the reins of the caliphate with whom All?h ( - عز وجل -) exalted Isl?m -as He ( - عز وجل -) did with ‘Umar Ibn Al-Khatt?b. He [Ibn Abdil ‘Az?z] showed extreme justice and magnificent guardianship towards his people

[When elected as a caliph], ‘Umar Ibn Abdil ‘Az?z began his first Khutbah with praising All?h ( - عز وجل -) , thanking Him then admonishing people and when he reached the part in which previous Khutabah used to insult the last of the four caliphs -‘Al? the righteous- he recited the Qur’?nic verse: ‘Verily, All?h ( - عز وجل -) enjoins on you justice and Ihs?n’, the said: ‘O! bondmen of All?h ( - عز وجل -) , I urge you to be ware of All?h ( - عز وجل -) ’ then descended from the pulpit’. (3)

The aforementioned points are some of the mistakes Khutabah do when delivering the Khutbah. There are other mistakes made by people in the presence of the Khat?b. Were the Khutabah forbid them from committing them, people would have never done them
