‘ Abdull?h Ibn ‘Umar once saw N?fi’offering his Sal?t individually in seclusion with one garment. Thereupon ‘Abdull?h said to him: ‘Haven’t I given you two garments?’ N?fi’answered in the affirmative. ‘Abdull?h then asked him:’Would you go out doors wearing one garment?’ N?fi’ answered in the negative. ‘Abdull?h then said: ‘Allah ( - ) is more entitled that one beautifies himself for’. (1)

Wearing Pajammas which one feels ashamed to go out to the market wearing them due to their thinness and transparency that they display one’s private parts falls under the same rule.

Ibn ‘Abdil Bar said in his “Tamh?d” (vol. 6/ p. 369): ‘Scholars recommend that a person should wear the best of what he has, apply perfume and use his siw?k , if he affords that, when he wants to offer Sal?t’.

Concerning conditions required for the Sal?t to be valid, one of which is the necessity to cover one’s private parts, Fuqah?’ said: ‘One’s clothes must be thick. Wearing transparent clothes for Sal?t renders it invalid’. (2)

This ruling applies to both males and females, whether Sal?t is performed individually or in congregation, whoever performs his/her Sal?t while some or all of one’s private parts are uncovered- though covering them lies in one’s ability - one’s Sal?t is rendered void even if the Sal?t is done privately in a dark place for covering one’s private parts is something obligatory. All?h ( - ) says:

[ يا بني آدم خذوا زينتكم عند كل مسجد]

‘ O children of Adam! Take your adornment (by wearing your clean clothes), while doing Sal?t’. (3) (4)
