memory and erred alot when narrating a had?th. Ash-Shawk?n? reported this in his “Naylul ‘Awt?r” (vol. 3/ p. 139).
I believe that Al-’Al?’? statements that this had?th could be considered Hasan considering the other chains of narrations, as Al-H?fith mentioned and reported, do not hold water for all these narrations are too weak that they can not support one another due to the great difference between them.
There is another had?th traced back to ‘Aishah that the prophet ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) ordered her [that when she forgets in her Sal?t] ‘to recite Tashahhud followed by Tasl?m then do two Suj?ds [Suj?d As-Sahwu] then recite Tashahhud once again’.
This had?th was narrated by Al-Tabar?n?. In its chain of narrators there is M?s? Ibn Mutair who narrated the had?th from his father. M?s? Ibn Matair is, however, a weak narrator whose narrations were abandoned by many ‘Ulamah such as: Ab? Hatim, An-Nas?’? and many others; Yahy? Ibn Ma’?n even considered him a lier.
As for his father [Mutair], Ab? H?tim said that his narrations are abandoned [by had?th ‘Ulamah]. So, the had?th is dropped down. All?h knows best. (1)
It is worth mentioning here, at the end of this discussion, that some Fuqah?’ considered Suj?d As-Sahwu to be an obligation in some cases that no affirmed had?th supports!! For example, some Fuqah?’ considered that Suj?d As-Sahwu is an obligation for the Im?m in case he forgets to recite Qun?t in Fajr Sal?t, although doing Qun?t in Fajr Sal?t is not of the prophet’s ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) Sunnah as was previously discussed. Other Fuqah?’ considered Suj?d As-Sahwu an obligation in case one proceeded F?tihah with verses from the Holy Qur’?n in the last two Rak’ahs although, as it was previously discussed, it is of the prophet’s ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) Sunnah. Such opinions induced Abul Hasan?t Al-Laknaw? to say in his “At-Ta’l?q Al-Mumajjad ‘Al? Muwtta’ Muhammad” (p. 102): ‘Some of our Shaikhs held strange opinions, one of which is that Suj?d As-Sahwu is an obligation on him who proceeded F?tihah with other S?rahs or verses from the Qur’?n. Those who commented on “Al-Munyah” refuted this opinion, some of whom are: Ibr?h?m Al-Halab?, Ibn ‘Am?r Al-H?j and others in a very convincing manner. Those who held such an opinion may not have heard the authentic had?th [which permits a muslim to proceed the F?tihah with other Surahs from the Qur’?n in the last two Rak’ahs of Sal?t] otherwise they would not have delivered such a ruling’.
[22] Mistakes done while in the sitting posture, reciting Tashahhud and Tasl?m:
The second sitting and reciting the second Tashahhud are one of the ‘Ark?n [sing. Rukn] of Sal?t. Some muslims make some mistakes while doing them. The following points discuss some of them:
[1/ 22] Reciting the statement: “As-Sal?mu ‘Alaika [you] Ayyuha An-Naby” in the Tashahhud:
Al-Bukh?r? ( - رضي الله عنه -) narrated in his “Sah?h” that All?h’s Messenger ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) said: ‘ ... .when you perform your Sal?t, say [in Tashahhud]: “At-Tahiyy?tu Lill?h was -Salaw?t Al-Tayyib?t. As-Sal?mu ‘Alaika Ayyuh? An-Naby Warahmatull?hi W? Barak?tuh ... ”. (2)
Commenting on this had?th, Al-H?fith Ibn Hajar said: ‘Other narrations of the had?th bear different wording regarding time; during the prophet’s ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) presence amongst Muslims, they used to address him [saying ‘Alika] but after his ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) death one should use the third person pronoun [‘Al?n Naby: on him].
In the chapter titled with ‘Asking for permission” in Sah?h Al-Bukh?r? (vol. 11 / p. 56) (no. 6265), it was narrated from Ab? Ma’mar from Ibn Mas’?d -after reciting the had?th stating Tashahhud- that he [Ibn Mas’?d] said: ‘[we used to say this word]
