Sha‘b? told me from Al-Mug?rah Ibn Shu’bah that the prophet ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) recited Tashahhud after doing Suj?d As-Sahwu’.
Commenting on this chain of narration, Al-Baihaq? said that Muhammad Ibn Abdir Rahm?n Ibn Ab? Lail? was the only one to report it from Ash-Sha’b? so this is not a satisfying narration. All?h knows best’.
‘Imr?n the son of Muhammad the son of Abdir Rahm?n Ibn Ab? Lail? whom Ibn Hibb?n considered as a Thiqah [reliable] is considered as an accepted narrator by Al-H?fith if another narrator relates the had?th from the same chain of narrators. This was done by Hushaim Ibn Bash?r but with different wording. Hushaim narrated the had?th from Ibn Ab? Lail? from Ash-Sha‘b? to have said: ‘Al-Mug?rah Ibn Shu‘bah led us in Sal?t. Having done the second Suj?d in the second Rak’ah he stood up [with out reciting Tashahhud]. Muslims behind him said Tasb?h [i.e. Subh?rnl ll?h to attract his attention to the mistake he has done] and he responded in Tasb?h [to encourage them follow him is Sal?t]. Having finished his Sal?t, he recited Tasl?m then did Suj?d As-Sahwu while still in the sitting posture. Then told them that this is the prophet’s ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) Sunnah’. This had?th was narrated by At-Tirmith? (no. 364) but he did not mention that which ‘Imr?n Ibn Muhammad mentioned from his father in Al-Baihaq?’s narration.
Sufyanuth Thawr? narrated Hushaim’s narration through the same chain of narrators. Ahmad narrated [in his Musand] (vol. 4/ p. 248) to have been told by Abdur Razz?q that Sufy?n narrated for him the had?th. So this shaky Matn refers to Ibn Ab? Lail? who had a very bad memory. At-Tirmith? reported that Ahmad said after narrating this had?th: ‘Ibn Ab? Lail?’s had?th is not to be taken into consideration’.
Al-Bukh?r? said: ‘Ibn Ab? Laila is honest but I don’t relate his narration for he is of those whose narrations are shaky’. Al-Baihaq? stated in “Al-Ma’rifah” that his ah?d?th are not taken into consideration if he is the only one to narrate them for he had a bad
