raised his hands beyond the level of his chest when reciting Du‘?’. (1)
Ibn ‘Umar’s ( - رضي الله عنه -) narration supports Ibn Hibb?n’s opinion. It states as follows: ‘All?h’s Messenger ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) used to beging his Sal?t with raising his hands to the level of his shoulders, and do the same when raising himself from Ruk?‘ ’. (2)
This had?th was narrated by nearly fifty of the Sah?bah ( - رضي الله عنهم -) , ten of whom were those who had received the glad tidings of being guaranteed admision to paradise. (3)
Im?m Al-Bukh?r? said: Both Al-Hasan and Humaid Ibn Hil?l stated, ‘the prophet’s Sah?bah ( - رضي الله عنهم -) used to raise their hands [in Sal?t], all of them ... ’. (4) It was never affirmed that the contemporary ‘Ulama in Hij?z and Ir?q - such as Al-Humaid?, Ibn Al-Mad?n?, ibn Ma‘?n, Ahmad Ibn Hanbal and Ish?q Ibn Rahawaih -reported that the prophet ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) and his Sah?bah abandoned raising their hands [In Sal?t]’. (5)
Ibn Al-Qayyim ( - رضي الله عنه -) said: ‘Pay heed to the prophet’s ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) manner in doing his Sal?t; raising his hands when doing Ruk?‘ and when rising from it. After his death, his Sah?bah ( - رضي الله عنهم -) followed his example earnestly that Abdull?h Ibn ‘Umar ( - رضي الله عنه -) even used to throw pebbles on those who do not raise their hands in Sal?t.
