The Fuqah?’ strongly affirmed that if one combined between the Salaw?t and accidentally passed by the mosque and finds that people are doing the second Sal?t, one does not have to enter the mosque and repeat the second Sal?t with them but if he wishes to do so, one should share the Im?m his Sal?t -as the aforementioned had?th states. (1) All?h ( - عز وجل -) knows that which is best.

It is worth-mentioning here that some Im?ms who perform combined Sal?t with the congregation let other people lead the praying muslims when Sal?t time is due. This is a mistake.

[66] Mistakes done in journey Sal?t:

People commit many mistakes when doing Sal?t while on a journey such as: abandoning combination between Salaw?t and shortening them. They even set some preconditions for their validity depending on no real proofs. The following paragraphs will discuss such mistakes.

* Abandoning combination and shortening Salaw?t on journey or travel.

[1/ 66] Some people, while being on journey, perform the five Salaw?t on their five due times without shortening them and hence abandoning the prophet’s ( - ) Sunnah. It is affirmed that he ( - ) used to combine and shorten the Salaw?t [while on a journey]. (2)

(1) See: The author’s book “Al-Jam‘u Bainas Sal?tain Fil Hadar Bi‘uthril Matar” (p. 151).

(2) According to the Hanaf? Mathahb, one may not combine between the Salaw?t except when being on ‘Arafh and Muzadlifah. And the Hanaf? scholars interpreted the ah?d?th that state the combination between the Salaw?t to refer to the artificial combination. However, some of the well-versed Hanaf? scholars -one of whom is Al-Laknaw?- rejected this view. He [Al-Laknaw?] said: ‘In his “Sharh Ma‘?n? Al-?th?r”, Al-Tah?w? supported the Hanaf? view and discussed it in details. But what about the ah?d?th that clearly state that combination was done after one of the Salaw?t’s time has gone, and they are all narrated in Al-Bukh?r?’s “Sah?h”, Ab? D?w?d’s “Sunnan”, Muslim’s “Sah?h” and in many other great compilations.

Some may argue that the had?th’s narrators were unable to recognize each Sal?t’s time, but the Sah?bah indeed did. Besides, such narrations are authentic ones and there is no access to error in them. If it were raised that other ah?d?th state that the ... =

= ... first Sal?t was done in its last part of its due time and the second in its first part of the time, this would entail the strong possibility of combining between them considering the different status in which one could be, indeed it is the apparent meaning [of the ah?d?th]’. ...

This was all adopted from “At-Ta‘l?qul Mumajjad” (p. 129). See also chapter two “Ar-Rad ‘Al? Munkir? Al-Jam‘” of my book “Al-Jam‘u Bainas Salatain” (pp. 101 - 16), all the misconceptions and their refutation were discussed in details. Praise be only to All?h ( - عز وجل -).
