[ of worship] are worthless and reward less in All?h’s ( - ) sight’. (1)
Some ‘Ulamah interpreted the had?th that ‘he has incurred sin on him self , he is not forgiven nor is preserved by All?h ( - ) from bad deeds’. Others stated: ‘He does not believe in that which All?h ( - ) made lawful or in that which All?h ( - ) decreed as forbidden’. Others said: ‘He is not following All?h’s ( - ) religion, and so All?h ( - ) disowned him’. (2)
To conclude, the aforementioned had?th states clearly the prohibition of letting one’s Iz?r down in salat out of conceit. This opinion is held by Ash-Sh?fi‘? and Hanbal? followers. It also indicates that if this act is not done out of conceit in Sal?t, it is still a detested act. (3) This opinion is held by Ash-Shafi‘iah. (4)
In his commentary on “Al-Muhall? “for Ibn Hazm, Shaikh Ahmad Sh?kir said: ‘The author hasn’t mentioned the had?th which could be a hard evidence on the invalidity of the Sal?t of the one who lets his garment down in it. Then he [Ahmad Sh?kir] mentioned the first had?th then said: ‘ .. and this had?th is authentic. An-Nawaw? said in “Riy?udus Salih?n” that its chain of narrators is authentic according to Muslim’s conditions for authentic narrations’. (5)

(3) We have already shown the prohibition of letting one’s garment down-whether out of conceit or not-in the previous point. And whosoever lets his garment down purposelessly will eventually fell in this horrible deed.
