Such Khutabah are the main cause for poverty and weakness to their people regarding the latter’s mundane and religious affairs. They cause muslims’ domination to destruction more than their enemies and the disbelievers do.

Their like is the like of the ignorant physician who kills his patient giving him the wrong medicine.

The following paragraphs discuss some of these Khutab?’s mistakes, indeed we seek help, guidance and goodness from All?h ( - عز وجل -).

[3/ 61] Prolonging the Khutbah and shortening the Sal?t:

Amm?r Ibn Y?sir ( - رضي الله عنه -) related that he heard the prophet ( - ) say: ‘Doing long Sal?t and delivering a short Khutbah is a sign of one’s Fiqh. So, prolong your Sal?t and shorten the Khutbah. Indeed, some speech is like magic [in its influence on people]’. (1)

The aforementioned had?th does not contradict the affirmed ones that urge muslims to shorten their Sal?t, one of which is related by J?bir Ibn Samurah ( - رضي الله عنه -) to have said: ‘I used to perform Sal?t with the prophet ( - ); his Sal?t was moderate and so was his Khutbah’. (2)

The Khat?b’s Sal?t should be longer than his speech but not too long that he causes hardship for other muslims. And the Khutbah should also be of moderate length. (3)

The good Khat?b, who is well-versed in the lexical meanings of the words and who is an eloquent and can deliver concise speeches,
