Commenting on Ab? Hurairah’s ( - رضي الله عنه -) statement, i.e. ‘this man has indeed disobeyed Abal Q?sim’, An-Nawaw? said: ‘The had?th indicates that leaving the mosque after the ’Ath?n is recited is a detested act except leaving it for a certain necessity. One must not leave the mosque after the ’Ath?n is recited till he joins the congregation their Sal?t. All?h ( - عز وجل -) knows best’. (1)
Ab? Hurairah’s ( - رضي الله عنه -) narration addresses whoever leaves the mosque without having the need to do so, unlike the one whose Wud?’ is invalidated, the one who needs to answer the call of nature, gets nose bleeding, or the like. So is the case with the one who is an Im?m in another mosque. Ab? Hurairah ( - رضي الله عنه -) reported that the prophet ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) once got out of his room after the Iq?mah had been recited and the rows had been straightened. Having stood in his place, and we all waited for him to pronounce Takb?r, he ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) ordered us to stay where we were and left the mosque. We stayed in our places till he came back with drops of water drippling down from his head due to doing Gusl’. (2)
[26] Wasting time chatting at the rear of the mosque while Takb?ratul Ihr?m is being recited:
[1/ 26] One of the mistakes people do in mosques is to stay at the back of the mosque chatting while the Im?m is reciting Takb?ratul Ihr?m.
This is indeed an act of disrespect for the purpose of attending the mosque. When asked about those who do such a thing, Im?m M?lik said: ‘I believe they should stop talking when the Im?m recites Takb?ratul Ihr?m’. (3)
It is worth mentioning here that talking with others in good subjects in the mosque is not forbidden in Isl?m provided that this talk does not cause inconvenience for those who are in the mosque, nor distract those who talk from performing Sal?t with the Im?m.
