long period of time of doing Sal?t, he does not have to do it. This long period of time they refer to does not, however, have limits. This opinion was held by Ash-Sh?fi‘? followers and Ahmad. Others stated that Suj?d As-Sahwu should be done provided that he does not get out of the mosque, otherwise this Suj?d is not considered as an obligation on him. Ahmad, Al-Hakam and Ibn Shibrimah, Al-Khiraq? and many others held this opinion.

A third party of Fuqah?’ said that either the long period of time [after reciting Tasl?m] or getting out of the mosque renders doing Suj?d As-Sahwu as non obligatory.

The soundest of all the opinions is the one held by Ahmad and Ash-S?fi’? and stated by Shaikul Isl?m in “Majm?’Al-Fat?w?” which states that one should do Suj?d As-Sahwu [if the need to do so exists] whether one remembers it after along time of doing Sal?t or after getting out the mosque for no Shar’ proof specifies doing Suj?d As-Sahwu at a certain time or place.

Another mistake done by some praying muslims is reciting Tashahhud after doing Suj?d As-Sahwu and before reciting Tasl?m! They build their practice on a weak had?th that runs as follows: ‘The prophet ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) led his Sah?bah in Sal?t and forgot to do a part of it; consequently, he ( - صلى الله عليه وسلم -) did Suj?d As-Sahwu, recited Tashahhud and finally recited Tasl?m’. This had?th was narrated by: Ab? D?w?d in his “Sunnan” (no. 1039), At-Tirmith? in his “Al-J?mi‘”(no. 395), Ibn Hibb?n in his “Sah?h” (no. 536), Ibn Khuzaimah in his “Sah?h” (vol. 2/ p. 134), Al-H?kim in “Al-Mustadrak” (vol. 1/ p. 323), Al-Baihaq? in “As - Sunnan Al-Kubr?” (vol. 2/ p. 355) and Ibn Al-J?r?d in “Al-Muntaq? “(no. 347) from Muhammad Ibn Abdill?h Al-’Ans?r? to have said: “‘Ash’ath Ibn Abdil Malik told us that Muhammad Ibn S?r?n told him from Kh?lid Al-Hathth?’ from Ab? Qil?bah from Muhallab from ‘Imr?n Ibn Husain to have said: ‘[the had?th]’.
